Halo: The Master Chief Collection (MCC) Update – April 2022

Updated: April 27, 2022

Latest Release: April 27 Patch

Resolved Issues

The following changes were made in the April 27, 2022 patch.

  • Improvements to Classic Audio in Halo: Combat Evolved.
  • Rockets in Halo 2 Classic multiplayer now correctly lock onto and track vehicles.
  • All players are now visible in Halo 2 Anniversary multiplayer matches.
  • In Halo 2 Classic multiplayer, the Mongoose will no longer spawn in Custom Games when the light vehicle option is set to Random.
    • The Mongoose is still available for use in Halo 2's mod tools.
    • For more information on Halo: The Master Chief Collection's mod tools, please visit the modding sub-forum on Steam.
  • The Field Medic skin for the Gauss Warthog has been removed from the Halo 3 Customization menu. While this skin was available in menus, no in-game version of this skin existed and it was incorrectly unlocked for players.
  • A crash caused by uploading map variants created on an Xbox 360 via the Private Files menu has been resolved.
    • If you are still experiencing crashes when uploading these map variants from the Private Files menu to your Shared Files, please submit a ticket.

April 14 Patch

Resolved Issues

The following changes were made in the April 14, 2022 patch.

  • Changes made to the Game Volume options in the Audio Settings menu are now reflected in Halo: Combat Evolved on Xbox consoles.
  • Halo 3 game and map variants as well as Halo 3: ODST Firefight game variants that appeared as 'corrupted' after the previous Halo: Master Chief Collection (MCC) update will now work as expected.
    • This issue sometimes caused the PC version of MCC to crash on the "Press Start" splash screen. These crashes are now resolved. If you removed these files and backed them up to another location as a workaround for this crash, restoring them will no longer result in a crash. If you're still experiencing crashes, please submit a ticket.
  • The "Eye Spy" challenge will now reflect the correct placement of the Golden Moa collectibles and track progress as expected.
    • This week, Golden Moas will be visible on all Halo 3 campaign missions, so the challenge can be progressed regardless of which missions are listed in its description. When the "Eye Spy" Challenge resets again next Wednesday (April 20, 2022) at 10AM PT, Golden Moas will only be visible on the three missions listed in the challenge description.

Known Issues

With this update, the team has added nine new issues to our Known Issues list:

  • When playing with Remastered graphics in Halo: Combat Evolved, gamepad button prompts are missing their backgrounds.
  • In Halo: Combat Evolved, gamepad look sensitivity when using the "Classic" aim setting is slower than expected.
  • When playing split-screen on an Xbox console, disconnecting a controller may result in the joining player's account being signed out without a notification.
  • The Customization menu may experience framerate drops on Xbox One X consoles.
  • When joining a Custom Game Browser session using the Quick Match feature, party members may see the incorrect filters listed in the user interface (UI). The party leader's selected filters will be used as expected.
  • The Game Categories in the Custom Game Browser's Filter menu lists modes that may not align with expected game variants in all titles. For example, Grifball in Halo 3 is an Assault game variant and Race is a VIP game variant, so the Grifball and Race game categories in the Custom Game Browser will not populate with those lobbies when searched.
  • Map Variants and Game Variants uploaded via the Private Files menu will display an incorrect file size in the Shared Files menu and when downloaded. This does not affect files uploaded via the Temporary Files menu.
  • After saving then editing a Trusted file from the My Files menu, the edited file will be shown as Trusted when it should display Untrusted. The correct status will be reflected after backing out to the Main Menu and then re-entering the Private Files menu.
  • When playing with a high Field-of-View (FOV) value and the effects quality option set to Low, some visual effects on the Halo 3 multiplayer map Waterfall may not appear.
