Get all the details on everything coming to Black Ops Cold War and Warzone this week at the Call of Duty Blog and get an overview of just some of the content arriving during Season Three in the official roadmap:

AN ALL-NEW SEASON OF CONTENT

Season Three launches with a brand-new Battle Pass packed with 100 Tiers of new content, including the badass new Perseus Operator “Wraith” unlocked at Tier 0, two free Battle Pass weapons, new Weapon Blueprints, Operator Skins, Vehicle Skins, and much more to unlock throughout the season.

We’re bringing six additional weapons to Black Ops Cold War throughout the season, including the PPSh-41 SMG, Swiss K31 sniper rifle, and everyone’s favorite Ballistic Knife at launch, with the CARV.2 tactical rifle, AMP63 machine pistol, and Baseball Bat melee weapon to follow later in the season. We’re excited to bring one of the series’ all-time favorite SMGs to Black Ops Cold War with the PPSh-41, and we can’t wait for snipers to add another rifle to their arsenal just two weeks after the release of the ZRG 20mm.

In addition to the Battle Pass content and all the new weapons coming to the game, Season Three also delivers four new Prestige Levels (12-15), two new sets of Season Challenges to MP and Zombies, and new legacy Prestige Icons and the Prestige Master Calling Card from the original Black Ops to the Prestige Shop. If you’ve been saving up your Prestige Keys since Season One, hit up the Prestige Shop at the start of the season and add some new favorites to your collection.

MULTIPLAYER

We’re bringing four maps to Multiplayer throughout Season Three, including three 6v6 maps, starting with the new Yamantau and Diesel at launch, and the iconic Standoff following in-season. The massive new Duga map will also come to Multi-Team later in the season after debuting exclusively in Outbreak for Zombies players at the start of the season.

From the frozen mountaintops of the U.S.S.R in Yamantau to the scorched New Mexico desert of Diesel, the action never stops in these fast-paced, small-sized maps. For Face Off and Gunfight fans, Diesel also joins the rotation for 3v3 and 2v2 modes. And if you played Black Ops II, you’ve probably been just as eager to jump into Standoff in Black Ops Cold War as we are. Keep an eye out for the return of the king later in the season.

Of course, the addition of the Ballistic Knife means the classic Stick and Stones party mode from the original Black Ops is also making its comeback! This is one of our favorite MP modes in Call of Duty history, and we’re excited to jump in with everyone in the community this week. Brush up on your crossbow shots and Tomahawk throws, and we’ll see you in the dedicated Sticks and Stones playlist. Note: Prop Hunt is making way for Sticks and Stones in the Featured Playlist lineup this week, and will return later in Season Three with the new Yamantau and Diesel maps added to the Prop Hunt rotation.

The new Strafe Run Scorestreak also comes to MP this week, providing sweeping ground cover and anti-aircraft fire from a pair of jet fighters to the tune of 5,000 score. Try this one out in objective-based modes where you need to hold down an area long enough for your team to capture a zone or shut out the enemy in a particular lane.

In the vehicle department, the all-new Cargo Truck makes its debut in Multi-Team modes this season, also appearing in Outbreak for Zombies players. Pick up the entire squad in this behemoth and plow through enemy teams while your passengers provide covering fire from the mounted turret and open rear flatbed.

For the competitive community, we’ve added Combat Record tracking support for League Play and restricted Thermal Optic attachments in all CDL modes. We’ve also made updates to movement, the Apocalypse and Checkmate maps, several MP modes, and Split-Screen, as well as additional UI and audio bug fixes. Check out the full list of patch notes below for all the details on what’s new in MP.

ZOMBIES

In Zombies, the action hits a fever pitch as Season Three sets the stage for the events to come in the Dark Aether story. Requiem expands their operations to Duga, a huge new Outbreak region packed with new story Intel, expanded Objective locations and new infil points, the addition of the weapon-mounted Cargo Truck and FAV vehicles, and much more. Keep an eye out for new secrets to discover throughout the Outbreak Zone, including Phase Wall Tears, D.I.E. Machine Wonder Weapon upgrades, a new way to access higher difficulty regions even faster, and the new Fury Crystal event as you carve a path through the Ural Mountains.

Verticality comes to Zombies in a big way in Duga, as players can ascend a massive Soviet radar array tower while fighting off the horde, and choose to either parachute or zipline to safety as a last-minute means of escape. This is our most versatile Outbreak region yet, offering new ways to outmaneuver the undead with plenty of nooks and crannies to explore.

The Dark Aether story will continue to unfold through the new in-game intel discoverable in Outbreak in Season Three, setting up the events leading to the Main Quest coming to Outbreak later in the season. Without spoiling anything, we’ll just say the secrets uncovered in Outbreak will tie directly into the narrative for our next round-based Zombies map – which is currently in the works! – as well as future seasons of Zombies content.

All Zombies players can get their hands on the brand-new Toxic Growth Field Upgrade in round-based maps and in Outbreak at Season Three’s launch, which summons a patch of wild growth to slow and deal toxic damage to enemies. Equip this Toxic Growth to shut down lanes, defend objectives, and buy your teammates precious seconds to escape the clutches of death. Like all Field Upgrades, Toxic Growth can be upgraded all the way to Skill Tier V to deal even more damage, persist longer, and even cause enemy corpses to explode!

We’ve also made some changes to three Ammo Mods with this update to shake up the meta and encourage more variety in gameplay. Most notably, Napalm Burst’s damage effects have now been doubled, and Dead Wire now receives a 25% damage bonus to stunned zombies (down from 33%) in a reduced radius. Shatter Blast’s explosive damage has also been reduced to bring its effectiveness in-line with the rest of the Ammo Mod options. Jump into Zombies, hit up the Pack-a-Punch Machine, and see what you think of the new adjustments.

Dead Ops Arcade 3 receives new improvements this week, including an adjustment to XP gains and updates to the Mamaback boss fight. And on PlayStation, Onslaught players can test their skills against the undead on the new Yamantau map, with more new content coming in-season. We’re happy to see such a positive reception from Zombies players over the recent gameplay improvements and content additions to Onslaught, and we plan to keep adding to the mode in the future. The new Containment mode will remain in rotation at the start of Season Three, as well!

In addition to a fix to unlock two Intel items from Trials in Outbreak, we’ve also implemented new bug fixes for Challenges, stability improvements for Outbreak, and more improvements across the board.

With the launch of Season Three, players will be happy to know we’ve increased XP and Match Bonus XP gains in all Zombies modes across the board, and Zombies players also receive a new set of 20 Season Challenges to unlock and complete for exclusive Calling Card and XP rewards. Reach Level 190 before the season is over to unlock all 20!

WEAPON UNLOCK CHALLENGES IN ZOMBIES

Also starting with Season Three, players will be able to complete weapon unlock challenges in both Multiplayer and Zombies, including existing and future weapon challenges. Bring in the new PPSh-41 and Swiss K31 from the Battle Pass into your Zombies loadouts, and unlock new and existing weapons like the R1 Shadowhunter and Ballistic Knife by completing challenges entirely within Zombies!

The current list of ranged weapon unlocks available in Zombies this week includes the Groza, MAC-10, Streetsweeper, FARA 83, LC10, R1 Shadowhunter, and ZRG 20mm, as well as the Sledgehammer, Wakizashi, Machete, E-Tool, and Ballistic Knife melee weapons. Look for future weapon unlock challenges to include requirements that can be completed in both MP and Zombies.

NEW WEAPON TUNING

Season Three also brings a new round of weapon tuning to Black Ops Cold War. This tuning pass brings adjustments across the board to the Light Machine Gun class, tightening up some of the areas where LMGs were particularly versatile compared to other classes. The Shotgun class also gets some changes, including tweaks to the Streetsweeper to remove its 1-hit kill potential and rein in its damage values.

We’ve also made some tuning changes in the Assault Rifle, Submachine Gun, and Tactical Rifle departments, including attachment updates for the FFAR 1, sprint speed updates for SMGs, and more. See below for the full list of tuning details.

“HUNT FOR ADLER” EVENT

Later on April 22nd, players can jump into the “Hunt for Adler” event in Black Ops Cold War and Warzone to complete challenges in both games to discover clues surrounding Adler’s whereabouts. Complete a full set of challenges in either game and unlock an exclusive Adler Operator Skin and new cosmetic rewards!

Speaking of Warzone, Verdansk is about to heat up in a big way in Season Three... be sure to jump into Warzone starting at 12PM PT / 3PM ET April 21st to witness it all, and follow @CallofDuty and @RavenSoftware on Twitter for all the latest updates.

  • Submachine Guns
    • AK-74u
      • Increased base sprint speed to align with other SMG sprint speeds.
      • Increased shooting move speed and reload sprint speed.
    • Attachments (All SMGs)
      • Patrol Grip Underbarrel
        • Slightly reduced sprint speed bonus for Patrol Grip Underbarrel for SMGs to match Pistol sprint speed.

      • Attachments

Developer’s note: The overall goal of these changes is to ensure that SMGs are faster to use than assault rifles by default. The AK-74u required some slight speed increases in order to bring it in-line with the rest of its class, and sprint speed bonuses for the Speedgrip Underbarrel on assault rifles, tactical rifles, and sniper rifles required an adjustment to ensure SMGs are faster to sprint with compared to these classes when using this attachment.

THE ACTION BEGINS MAY 20TH

Get ready to take on two sets of new challenges across Black Ops Cold War and Warzone™ during the ‘80s Action Heroes event starting May 20th! Complete both sets to unlock new Weapon Blueprints and plenty of action movie-themed customization items while the event is active.

In addition to new rewards and limited-time modes coming to both games, two iconic ‘80s action heroes are joining the party as Operators during the event. For all the details on what’s coming in this limited-time event, visit the Call of Duty blog.

New weapons are also on the way, with the Baseball Bat melee weapon and AMP63 machine pistol arriving in-season. The Baseball Bat will launch exclusively in Black Ops Cold War this season, while the AMP63 will come to both Black Ops Cold War and Warzone later in the season. Both weapons will also have weapon unlock challenges that can be completed in either Multiplayer or Zombies. The Ballistic Knife will also arrive in Warzone this week as part of Raven Software’s update this week.

MULTIPLAYER

Multiplayer gets super-charged in the second half of Season Three with new maps, new modes, new weapons, new playlists, and new tuning changes and bug fixes for a variety of Scorestreaks, maps, modes, and more.

First up, we’re bringing the iconic Standoff from Black Ops II to 6v6 this week, and it plays just like it did back then. Grab your squad and jump into the Standoff 24/7 Featured Playlist this week to go wild on this classic map all week long in a Moshpit of TDM, Domination, Kill Confirmed, and Hardpoint. Standoff is one of our all-time favorite maps from the entire Black Ops series catalog, and we’re hyped to bring it to the community this week!

The massive Duga also debuts in Multi-Team modes this week, originally available exclusively in Zombies for the first half of the season in Outbreak. We can’t wait to let everyone loose on one of our biggest maps to date, especially with the launch of our newest Multi-Team mode going live this week.

In the all-new, last-team-standing Multi-Team Elimination mode, ten teams of four drop in with limited redeploys to fight for survival while radiation zones constantly expand. Loadouts are restricted, so you’ll need to scavenge for weapons, Scorestreaks, Armor, and other gear. Come out on top as the last team alive, or be the first squad to board the exfil chopper in the final safe zone, and you’ll take the win. Easier said than done.

The gameplay featured here is far more tactical with higher stakes compared to our other Multi-Team modes, and we’re excited to see what everything thinks this week. Check out Multi-Team Elimination in its own dedicated Featured Playlist this week, or jump into the Multi-Team Moshpit playlist to get the full 40-player experience.

The ‘80s Action Heroes event also brings the new Die Hardpoint mode to Multiplayer with an explosive twist! Capture Hardpoints to gain points for your team, and eliminate multiple enemies in the same life to earn up to five powerful buffs... but watch out once your timer starts ticking down! When it hits zero, you explode, so you’ll need to capture those Hardpoints and keep slaying to survive.

Capturing a Hardpoint grants a movement speed boost and sets your timer to 30 seconds. Go on kill-streaks to earn up to four additional buffs, including improved weapon handling, ADS speed, slide speed, and a larger explosion upon death (earned after a five-kill streak). Your timer extends with eliminations and Hardpoint captures, and the timer stays paused while on your team's Hardpoint. The first team to reach 200 points, or the most points before time expires, wins!

Watch for Rambo’s Gun Game to launch next week, featuring an action-packed weapon progression of 20 high-powered weapons! Get more info on this upcoming mode and more at the Call of Duty blog.

The new 12v12 Moshpit also expands to even more 6v6 maps this week with Standoff, The Pines, and Moscow added to the rotation. If you’re looking for some chaos (and a great way to complete some challenges), you’ll want to spend some time in this one over the weekend. Who knows, there might even be some 2XP coming very soon...

In League Play, we’ve enabled the new match canceling feature to reduce the number of matches with lopsided teams. Starting this week, matches will be canceled if players disconnect before the start of the match or shortly after the match starts. The remaining players will not lose Ladder Points as a result. As always, we’ll continue to monitor match health in League Play and consider additional changes as necessary.

ZOMBIES

We’re bringing new content and features to every pillar of the Zombies experience this week, including round-based Zombies, Outbreak, Dead Ops Arcade, and Onslaught. As we mentioned in last week’s “What’s Next in Black Ops Cold War Zombies” blog, there’s a lot coming for Zombies fans over the span of the next season and beyond.

The ‘80s Action Heroes event brings the new Cranked 2: No Time to Crank mode to both “Firebase Z” and “Die Maschine” this week, with some new action movie-themed twists to the Cranked formula. It was awesome to see such a great community reaction to Cranked in Zombies (once we removed the Plaguehound rounds, that is...), and we’re excited to bring an even bigger and better version to our round-based maps.

In the sequel, all Mystery Box locations are active and now feature an explosive selection of weapons and Support, with higher frequency of Support in the Mystery Box this time around. All players start with the Knife, Zombies are now more likely to drop lethal explosive Equipment when killed, and Crafting Tables, Wall Buys, and the Main Quest are disabled. Of course, the number one rule hasn’t changed: keep killing zombies before you explode!

On Thursday, May 20th, the hunt is on as our first-ever Outbreak Main Quest kicks off across the globe at 10AM PT! We can’t wait to watch everyone uncover the steps for the first time, along with all the other new secrets to discover in the Ural Mountains, including the ability to go fishing for useful items. There’s also plenty of new Dark Aether story Documents, Audio Logs, Radio Transmissions, and Artifacts to add to your collection, and you’ll definitely want to keep an eye out for roaming Ordas...

Dead Ops Arcade 3 gets a new Silverback Slideways bonus map and a huge list of gameplay improvements and bug fixes with this update! We’re also bringing our 18th map to Onslaught with Standoff, along with the insane new “Mystery Munitions” limited-time mode and a new challenge to take on for an exclusive Weapon Blueprint.

We’re also bringing plenty of quality-of-life improvements, including Custom Mod Weapon Blueprint support, new Aetherium Crystal rewards for completing Main Quests, and new weapons added to the Mystery Box and Trial rewards! Check out the patch notes below for all the details on what’s new in Zombies this week, including Zombies-specific weapon tuning updates.

NEW WEAPON TUNING

This update brings two new rounds of weapon tuning to Black Ops Cold War: one for all modes, and one specific to Zombies. The first is a global tuning pass for all sniper rifles, assault rifles, LMGs, and pistols to help each weapon stand out on its own and play to its strengths. This includes adding a custom flinch effect to all snipers and individualizing ADS momentum for each sniper rifle. Read on below for developer commentary from the team on each of these updates.

The second round of weapon tuning raises the power of most of the Black Ops Cold War arsenal in Zombies to ensure each weapon is a viable choice in any situation. See below for details on the full list, and when in doubt... aim for the head.

Here’s what’s coming to Black Ops Cold War when our mid-season update goes live at 9PM PT May 19 / 12AM ET May 20 – for Warzone patch notes, please visit the blog at RavenSoftware.com.

Combat Record

Addressed an issue where Hardcore matches were being counted as Core modes.

Weapon Tuning

  • All Sniper Rifles

In this update, we’re revising sniper rifles with two goals in mind:

  • To create more meaningful gameplay between sniper rifles and other weapon classes.
  • To better define the role of each sniper rifle to give them more individuality and specialization.

To those ends, the following updates have been made:

Custom Flinch: We’ve created a sniper-specific flinch that moves the weapon aim while being hit. This flinch is more pronounced in ADS. Attachments that reduce flinch have been factored into this feature update.

ADS Momentum: ADS (Aim Down Sight) Momentum is now individualized for each sniper rifle. ADS Momentum is that feeling of weightiness as the weapon exits and re-enters ADS. You feel this when you rapidly exit and enter ADS, without fully returning fully to the hip position. Heavier sniper rifles will now feel weightier and re-acquire ADS slower accordingly. Please note that ADS Momentum is not used when entering ADS from the full hip-fire position.

As the next step in making each sniper rifle stand out even further in its own right, we’ve made the following changes across the weapon class. As always, we’re committed to evaluating and adjusting weapon stats as necessary once these updates are live based on game data and feedback.

LW3 - Tundra

This is the baseline of our sniper rifles. It is lenient enough in its one-hit kill capacity while being fast enough to scan the horizon and find new targets quickly. This weapon is meant to be geared for most players to play with and have fun experiencing what it’s like to be a sniper in Black Ops Cold War. The following changes better define the weapon’s role, providing more long-range accuracy and focusing less on short-range combat viability.

  • LW3 - Tundra
    • Increased Bullet Velocity from 550 to 580.
    • Reduced ADS-In Momentum from 0.2 to 0.233.
  • Attachments
    • Reduced Bullet Velocity bonus from 28.2” Extended Barrel attachment from 25% to 18%.
    • Reduced Bullet Velocity bonus from 29.1” Combat Recon Barrel attachment from 75% to 36%.
    • Reduced Bullet Velocity bonus from 28.2” Tiger Team Barrel attachment from 50% to 27%.
    • Reduced Flinch Resistance bonus from Dropshot Wrap Handle attachment from 50% to 33%.
    • Reduced Flinch Resistance bonus from Field Tape Handle attachment from 90% to 50%.
    • Reduced Flinch Resistance bonus from SASR Jungle Grip Handle attachment from 80% to 67%.
    • Increased Sprint to Fire Time penalty from SASR Jungle Grip Handle attachment from 12% to 15%.
    • Reduced Flinch Resistance Bonus from Airborne Elastic Wrap Handle attachment from 90% to 25%.
    • Increased Sprint to Fire Time penalty from Airborne Elastic Wrap Handle attachment from 15% to 18%.
    • Reduced Aim Down Sight Time bonus from Airborne Elastic Wrap Handle attachment from 12% to 5%.

Pelington 703

The Pelington 703 is designed to be a quick-handling sniper rifle for players who enjoy constant movement and repositioning, trading off some one-hit kill potential for more speed. This weapon is geared for the kind of player who enjoys running into the middle of gun battles and advancing on important positions. The following changes reinforce the weapon’s role, shifting some ADS speed into a Sprint to Fire benefit, and using a slightly slower Bullet Velocity to keep gameplay at closer ranges.

  • Pelington 703
    • Increased Sprint to Fire speed from 0.45 to 0.433.
    • Reduced Bullet Velocity from 500 to 478.
    • Increased Aim Down Sight Time from 0.55 to 0.583.
  • Attachments
    • Reduced Bullet Velocity bonus from 25” Extended Barrel attachment from 25% to 17%.
    • Reduced Bullet Velocity bonus from 27.2” Combat Recon Barrel attachment from 75% to 43%.
    • Reduced Bullet Velocity bonus from 26.5” Tiger Team Barrel attachment from 50% to 30%.
    • Reduced Flinch Resistance bonus from Field Tape Handle attachment from 90% to 50%.
    • Reduced Flinch Resistance bonus from SASR Jungle Grip Handle attachment from 80% to 67%.
    • Reduced Flinch Resistance Bonus from Airborne Elastic Wrap Handle attachment from 90% to 25%.
    • Reduced Aim Down Sight Time bonus from Airborne Elastic Wrap Handle attachment from 12% to 5%.

Sniper Rifle Charlie (Semi-Auto)

With the recent release of the ZRG 20mm and the popularity of the LW3 - Tundra, there existed an untapped space between those two weapons. To fill that position, our semi-auto sniper rifle has been given some new upgrades. Leaning into the lethality of a .50 Cal round, the weapon is now much more powerful, with the trade-off of being slower to fire successive shots. As a semi-automatic weapon without any rechamber, it is still quite fast and works well for holding down a position.

  • Sniper Rifle Charlie
    • Increased one-hit kill potential to include the mid-torso.
    • Increased Aim Down Sight speed from 0.7 to 0.666.
    • Increased ADS-Out Momentum from 0.2 to 0.183.
    • Reduced ADS-In Momentum from 0.2 to 0.25.
    • Reduced firing speed from 0.333 to 0.833.
  • Attachments
    • Reduced Bullet Velocity bonus from 22.2” Extended Barrel attachment from 25% to 13%.
    • Increased Fire Rate bonus from 20.6” Rapid Fire Barrel attachment from 11% to 12%.
    • Reduced Bullet Velocity bonus from 22.6” Combat Recon Barrel attachment from 75% to 26%.
    • Reduced Bullet Velocity bonus from 22.6” Tiger Team Barrel attachment from 50% to 20%.
    • Increased Fire Rate bonus from 22.6” Tiger Team Barrel attachment from 18% to 24%.
    • Reduced Flinch Resistance bonus from Field Tape Handle attachment from 90% to 50%.
    • Reduced Flinch Resistance bonus from SASR Jungle Grip Handle attachment from 80% to 67%.
    • Increased Sprint to Fire penalty from SASR Jungle Grip Handle attachment from 12% to 15%.
    • Reduced Flinch Resistance Bonus from Airborne Elastic Wrap Handle attachment from 90% to 25%.
    • Increased Sprint to Fire penalty from Airborne Elastic Wrap Handle attachment from 15% to 18%.
    • Reduced Aim Down Sight Time bonus from Airborne Elastic Wrap Handle attachment from 12% to 5%.

ZRG 20mm

This is the most lethal sniper rifle in Black Ops Cold War, and it ravages vehicles and Scorestreaks. This power comes at a price, as this weapon is slower with less available ammo. Players who prioritize map knowledge, common enemy movements, and destroying enemy Scorestreaks will excel with the ZRG 20mm. Strategy over tactics. To that end, this weapon must be slower to wield compared to the rest of the sniper rifle class.

  • ZRG 20mm
    • Reduced Aim Down Sight speed from 0.65 to 0.683.
    • Reduced Bullet Velocity from 925 to 923.
    • Increased ADS-Out Momentum from 0.2 to 0.183.
    • Reduced ADS-In Momentum from 0.2 to 0.283.
    • Custom Vehicle Damage: The “anti-material” property of this weapon deals extra damage to every vehicle and Scorestreak. Due to the sheer number of vehicles and Scorestreaks to choose from in Black Ops Cold War, this damage is displayed in-game as a range (i.e. 1100 – 2200). Generally speaking, the larger a vehicle or Scorestreak is, the more damage this weapon will deal to it.
  • Attachments
    • Reduced Bullet Velocity bonus from 41.9” Extended Barrel attachment from 25% to 10%.
    • Reduced Bullet Velocity bonus from 43.9” Combat Recon Barrel attachment from 75% to 20%.
    • Reduced Bullet Velocity bonus from 42.7” Sigma Special Barrel attachment from 67% to 16%.
    • Reduced Flinch Resistance bonus from Field Tape Handle attachment from 90% to 50%.
    • Reduced Flinch Resistance bonus from SASR Jungle Grip Handle attachment from 80% to 67%.
    • Increased Sprint to Fire penalty from SASR Jungle Grip Handle attachment from 12% to 18%.
    • Reduced Flinch Resistance Bonus from Airborne Elastic Wrap Handle attachment from 90% to 25%.
    • Increased Sprint to Fire penalty from Airborne Elastic Wrap Handle attachment from 15% to 20%.
    • Reduced Aim Down Sight Time bonus from Airborne Elastic Wrap Handle attachment from 12% to 5%.

Swiss K31

With its low recoil, fast rechamber, and speedy handling, this weapon is ideal for quickly eliminating multiple enemy targets. Players with an eagle eye and nerves of steel will be able to down more enemies with this weapon than with any other sniper rifle. For those who aren’t as skilled at nailing their headshots every time, the Swiss K31 can perform much like a tactical rifle. The changes made here further index on this skill aspect, with the benefit of less sniper flinch.

  • Swiss K31
    • 25% less Flinch than other sniper rifles.
    • Reduced Bullet Velocity from 700 to 684.

All Assault Rifles

We’ve improved bullet velocities across the board (with one exception) to allow assault rifles more innate long-distance advantage over submachine guns. The FFAR 1 has its Bullet Velocity reduced in exchange for an increase to its max damage.

We have also standardized headshot modifiers on assault rifles with this update. Assault rifles that have 5.56 ammo have a 1.4x headshot modifier, while those that use 7.62 ammo have a 1.25x modifier. In general, assault rifles that use 7.62 ammo deal higher damage already. The number of hits required to kill remain the same, except for the FFAR 1, which requires fewer hits to kill if the player scores a headshot.

Zombies Weapon Tuning

We’ve increased the power of most weapons through higher critical damage multipliers (generally from 2.8X up to 4.5X) to make killing zombies feel even satisfying by rewarding players for skillful shooting. Some weapons have also received additional adjustments to their Pack-a-Punched versions with respect to magazine size, stock ammo, and damage.

This update generally brings up the power levels of the Black Ops Cold War arsenal in Zombies to ensure every weapon is a viable option in round-based Zombies maps, Outbreak, and Onslaught.

Note: Damage and critical location hit multiplier tuning below is unique to Zombies and is not inherited from the global weapon tuning changes also included in this update.

The ‘80s Action Continues!

Rambo_Woods_03.jpg

NEW MODES: RAMBO’S GUN GAME & 3v3 GUNFIGHT

Our ‘80s Action Heroes event continues with Rambo’s Gun Game in Black Ops Cold War this week! The rotation of 20 weapons gets a serious boost in firepower, as the Combat Bow, War Machine, RPG-7, and even the Death Machine get added into a fresh set of armaments. To help keep our action heroes alive, players will also be equipped with the Stimshot. Check out all the details on Rambo’s Gun Game at the Call of Duty Blog.

Die Hardpoint has become an instant fan-favorite and stands strong this week in our Multiplayer Featured Playlists, along with 12v12 Moshpit and Standoff 24/7. In addition, Snipers Only Moshpit returns to Multiplayer via the Quick Play menu for all you sharpshooters out there.

We’re also bringing 3v3 Gunfight to Multiplayer for the first time, where two teams of three throw down on our smallest maps with randomized loadouts. This one’s different from the 3v3 playlists we’ve had in the past – here, you’ll be playing purely by standard Gunfight rules without being restricted to sniper rifle loadouts or melee weapons only. We’re also testing out 6v6 gameplay on these maps for a special variant of Face Off in the near future, so keep those eyes peeled.

MULTI-TEAM ELIMINATION: UPDATES & TIPS

It’s been amazing to see all the positive responses to our new Multi-Team: Elimination mode since Season Three Reloaded kicked off! This last-team-standing experience was designed as a love letter to Blackout fans, featuring gameplay elements from Black Ops 4’s Down But Not Out LTM to keep the action moving with multiple redeploys and loot-to-survive fundamentals.

In today’s update, we've added some new gameplay and UI improvements based on player feedback to make Elimination even better, including increased XP values, map voting, improved ping visibility, and more. Check out the full list in the patch notes below, and watch for more updates on the way.

Additionally, we wanted to share some tips from the dev team to help your chances of success in Elimination:

  • Infil: This is your first drop into the match, and can pave the way to success throughout the match. Be on the lookout for the Supply Drop chopper while in the infil plane and make your way to the package if you’re looking for the rarest items. Supply Drops contain lethal Scorestreaks like the Death Machine, War Machine, and Sentry Turrets in addition to weapons, Armor Plates, and Equipment.
    • If you don’t manage to make it to a Supply Drop, don’t worry, as everyone will have access to a standard submachine gun on each infil and redeploy. This does mean that you’ll want to be ready to fight when your boots hit the ground.
  • Play the Edge: For those who prefer a more peaceful start, try heading to the perimeter of the maps. While you may not get into as many engagements, the connecting areas and forests throughout the Ural Mountains are great spots to find containers to slowly build up your loadout. Keep your eyes on the expanding radiation, however, as you can easily find yourself on the wrong side of the clouds. You’ll see waypoints in the distance to give you a good idea of how quickly you need to move.
  • Mid-Game: This is where things start to heat up. Each player gets five redeploys throughout the match. Redeploys occur on a rolling 30-second wave, which means anyone in the queue to redeploy will be dropping back in when that timer hits :00, as long as one of their teammates is still alive.
    • If you find yourself in an engagement with an enemy squad and don't manage to eliminate them from the match by wiping the squad, stay vigilant, as it's likely those same enemies will be dropping right back in to get their revenge. We suggest you stay on the move after engagements or risk getting squad-wiped yourself.
  • Endgame: Time for the payoff. By now, you should have your ideal loadout tailored for the eventual exfil site. If you’re battling over the rooftops in Sanatorium, a great setup might be a tactical rifle, submachine gun, and a Field Mic to detect any enemies that may try to flank your squad. If you find yourself in a more open setting like the ski slopes of Alpine, a sniper rifle, assault rifle, and a Smoke Grenade can go a long way at picking off enemies at range and providing cover for a potential exfil.
  • Exfil: The decision between eliminating all enemies or attempting an exfil for the W is situational. If the area is still hot with a high number of enemies, you may want to let the other squads battle it out and hope for some wipes, or do the dirty work yourself. When the number of remaining enemies is low for the final zone, an exfil could be the right choice with the right tactics in play.
    • If you do go for the exfil, make sure your squad covers the angles to the chopper while you swoop in and hook up. This is also the perfect time to equip and deploy those Scorestreaks that you managed to find along the way. Good luck!

BOCW_S4_Roadmap_16x9.jpg

A NEW SEASON OF CONTENT IS HERE

This week, Season Four launches with an all-new Battle Pass loaded with 100 Tiers of in-game content. Pick up the Battle Pass for instant access to the fearsome Perseus Operator “Jackal” unlocked at Tier 0, two free weapons, new Weapon Blueprints, Operator Skins, Vehicle Skins, and more to earn throughout the season.

As always, we’re bringing a whole new arsenal to Black Ops Cold War this season, including the MG 82 LMG, the C58 assault rifle, and the Black Ops III favorite Nail Gun at launch, plus the OTs 9 SMG and Mace melee weapon dropping later in the season.

The race to Prestige Master is on with four new Prestige Levels to achieve (16-19) sporting some of our most badass Prestige Icons yet. We’ve also got new legacy content from previous Black Ops titles to unlock in the Prestige Shop, including the animated "Bacon" Calling Card from Black Ops II, available after reaching Season Level 100. Watch for even more new legacy items to hit the Prestige Shop later in the season!

To help everyone level up even faster, the team has reduced the amount of XP needed to progress through Season Levels in Black Ops Cold War, Warzone, and Modern Warfare, and we’ve got two new sets of Season Challenges in Multiplayer and Zombies coming to Season Four, each with its own exclusive Calling Card and XP rewards! We’re also helping out all those challenge hunters out there with the new Challenge Tracker feature available at the Options menu, so you can track your Daily Challenge progress mid-match.

“GROUND FALL” LIMITED-TIME EVENT

During Season Four’s launch week, players can participate in the new “Ground Fall” limited-time event in Black Ops Cold War and Warzone to complete challenges for exclusive rewards, including a new Epic Secondary Weapon Blueprint! The event ends June 24th, so make sure you complete those challenges before they’re gone for good.

BOCW-S4-EDITORIAL-001-1080.jpg

MULTIPLAYER

Four Multiplayer maps are coming to Multiplayer with Season Four, including Collateral as our newest 12v12 Combined Arms map along with its Collateral Strike variant in 6v6, the return of the Black Ops II favorite Hijacked in 6v6, and the debut of Amsterdam for 2v2 and 3v3 modes. Later in the season, we’re bringing back another classic with the paintball arena mayhem of Rush for 6v6.

We’re huge fans of the vehicle-fueled chaos that Combined Arms brings to the Black Ops Multiplayer experience, and we’re excited to expand the 12v12 map offering at the start of the season with Collateral. Hijacked is an undeniable all-time favorite in the Call of Duty community, and we’re proud to bring Black Ops Cold War’s fast-paced 6v6 modes to this decked-out superyacht for the first time, along with a dedicated Hijacked 24/7 playlist this week. And of course, players can expect to test their skills on the rooftops of Amsterdam in intense, smaller-scale modes like Gunfight Blueprints, Face Off 6v6, and our upcoming Gunfight Tournaments.

BOCW-S4-EDITORIAL-015-1080.jpg

Along with this season’s new maps and weapons, we’re bringing the Hand Cannon to Multiplayer as our latest Scorestreak: a massive tactical handgun that decimates enemies and other Scorestreaks with ease. Don’t forget to set up your Scorestreak selection to include this beauty when the season begins, and get ready to try it out in our latest party game.

Black Ops veterans will know One in the Chamber by heart – everyone spawns in with a handgun, a single bullet, and three lives. Get a kill, get a bullet back. This time around, your random loadout can include the 1911, Magnum, or the new Hand Cannon. Be the first to reach the score limit to come out on top... just be sure not to miss.

BOCW-S4-EDITORIAL-006-1080.jpg

We’re also upping the ante on our biggest maps with Multi-Team: Sat-Link, our brand-new, large-scale mode that pits 10 teams of four against each other in a race to locate and power up Sat-Links marked on the map. This is one of our most intensely competitive 40-player modes yet, and we’ve had some crazy matches come down to the wire in playtesting sessions.

You’ll need to find the Sat-Link, power it up, and upload data to satellites in orbit to gain points for your squad. Search for crates to collect powerful Scorestreaks and other useful items, and eliminate any other squads attempting to upload the data before you do. Work together with your teammates and reach the score limit first to get the W.

04._Amsterdam_Salah_CETME.jpg

Fans of our recent ‘80s Action Heroes modes will be happy to know we’re also bringing Cranked Hardpoint to Multiplayer in this week’s Featured Playlists, complete with a “secret” Scorestreak to call in at 25 successive kills. In addition, we’ve added Hardcore Hardpoint to Quick Play for the first time, and 12v12 Moshpit is getting a new upgrade with the insane new 12v12 Cranked Hardpoint.

CDL-003.jpg

LEAGUE PLAY

This season in League Play, we’re updating the Skill Division requirements to help maintain our target population distribution percentages for each Division. Some players may see their Skill Division placement shift after their next placement match – be sure to jump into League Play this weekend to see where you land once the new requirements are in place.

We’re also putting some additional weapon restrictions in place by popular demand. Starting with Season Four, the LC10 SMG and AK-47 assault rifle will now be restricted in League Play. Update your loadouts accordingly.

After the launch of the season, we’ll also be delivering brand-new League Play Rewards for competitive fans to unlock with Placement Rewards and Skill Division Rewards. Players can win 10 games in the Advanced, Expert, Elite, and Master Divisions to earn Charm, Emblem, and Sticker rewards to show off their skills. In addition, each Ladder Event placement type will award a Charm, Emblem, and Sticker when earned for the following:

  • Finish Top 25
  • Finish Top 10
  • Finish Top 5
  • Victory - Finish 1st
  • Hot Streak: 2 Consecutive 1st Place Finishes
  • Blazing: 3 Consecutive 1st Place Finishes
  • Diamond: 6 total 1st Place Finishes
BOCW-S4-EDITORIAL-009-1080.jpg

ZOMBIES

This week kicks off the biggest season of content for Black Ops Cold War Zombies players yet! Get ready to take on our second Main Quest and the new Zoo region in Outbreak, explore the new Collateral map and unlock additional story Intel in Onslaught, check out new gameplay updates for Dead Ops Arcade 3, and of course, prepare for the upcoming launch of our next round-based map: “Mauer der Toten.”

With the recent launch of Outbreak’s first Main Quest, this week’s second Main Quest, and the upcoming secrets that await in “Mauer der Toten,” we’re delivering the most quest-driven Zombies content that we’ve ever released in the span of two months. The team has been laser-focused on packing this season with awesome content for the Zombies community, and the wait is almost over.

Operation Excision,” our second Main Quest in Outbreak, will kick off worldwide at 10AM PT / 1PM ET on June 17th and provide the narrative prologue to “Mauer der Toten.” Now that players have braved the dangers lurking beneath the Ural Mountains, taken on the terrifying Legion, and foiled Omega’s plans for “Operatsiya Inversiya,” it’s time to take things up a notch. The hunt begins this Thursday!

Also launching this week, Requiem agents will take on the undead in the new Zoo region and uncover a treasure trove of new collectible Intel that will complement the new Main Quest in driving the Dark Aether story forward. Be sure to search every corner and take on every objective to complete your Intel collection for the season. Players will also be able to unlock additional Treyarch Zombies tracks in the Music Player by completing “Unknown Signal” World Events in Outbreak!

Once again, we’d like to thank the millions of new and longtime Zombies players who’ve spent countless hours discovering the secrets of the Ural Mountains since Outbreak’s launch. It’s still amazing to see the number of Outbreak players neck-and-neck with round-based map players, and we’re beyond excited to deliver new content for the entire community this season, no matter how you like to play.

This season also brings new gameplay and stability improvements to Dead Ops Arcade 3, and on PlayStation, Onslaught players can take on the undead and discover new story Intel in the new Collateral map, with more Onslaught content coming later in the season. The popular Onslaught Containment mode will return this season with support for Nuketown ‘84, as well.

Starting this week, Zombies players will also be able to complete new Weapon Unlock Challenges to add to their arsenal, including the new Nail Gun Special weapon, as well as the PPSh-41 SMG and Swiss K31 sniper rifle for those who missed out on unlocking them in the Season Three Battle Pass. Be sure to get them leveled up and max out those Skills in time for our mid-season update – you’re going to need it.

“MAUER DER TOTEN”: OUR NEXT MAP LAUNCHES MID-SEASON

The wait is almost over. Our next round-based map is coming to Black Ops Cold War Zombies mid-season with “Mauer der Toten,” packed with new enemies, new quests, new secrets to discover, a new upgradable Perk, new Wonder Weapon, new crafting item, and much more. And like Maxis before him, Grigori Weaver will be making his debut as a playable Operator later in the season, based on his O.G. incarnation from the first Black Ops Campaign.

As we mentioned in our recent “What’s Next in Black Ops Cold War Zombies” blog, the team has been hard at work on this next map since before the launch of “Firebase Z,” and we’re pulling out all the stops on this one. Tune into our official Treyarch studio broadcast tomorrow for a glimpse at what’s to come mid-season, along with a special guest appearance by Julie Nathanson, AKA the one-and-only Samantha Maxis.

ASSAULT RIFLE WEAPON TUNING

The current state of the meta is in a great place after our most recent weapon tuning pass, and we’ve been carefully watching the data to ensure no particular weapon overtakes the rest of its class. In Season Four, we’re only making some minor adjustments to a few assault rifle Muzzle attachments in the Gunsmith.

In most cases, these changes improve the damage range on suppressor attachments for assault rifle users who prefer a stealthier approach. See below for the full list of tuning details.
