The First Descendant: Multiplayer or Solo Play?

The First Descendant, a cooperative looter-shooter game with no PvP elements, was released on July 2 as a free-to-play title and quickly got the attention of hundreds of thousands of players, ensuring that the matchmaking process is smooth and fast. But you might still wonder if you can play it solo. We have the answer here.

Can You Play Solo?

The short answer is, yes. While The First Descendant is built to be a cooperative title, you can opt to play single-player. For the smaller missions in a particular area, you likely played solo unless you had a party with your friends. However, sometimes, you may find yourself grouped with nearby players who are on the same mission as you.

Understanding the Matchmaking Option

Certain missions will start with a matchmaking option. You can opt to start the mission in private or public mode. In a private session, you can play alone or invite other players you choose. On the other hand, public sessions will match you with random players.

Should You Play Solo?

Although it's technically possible to play alone in these sessions, we’d recommend using public matchmaking and opting for the private option only if there are specific players you wish to invite. This is primarily because some enemies can be time-consuming to defeat and you may run out of ammo. Take for example, when you find yourself in a public session for a mission and run out of ammo, with no supply points nearby. If you are with other players, you can loot from the enemies they defeated. However, if you were to play on your own, there's a high chance that you would have failed the mission.
