A New Chapter in Rainbow Six Siege: Crossplay and Beyond

Ubisoft's much-acclaimed competitive multiplayer shooter, Rainbow Six Siege, is set to enhance its gaming experience with the introduction of PC and console crossplay in its latest update.

The Dawn of Operation Collision Point

The long-awaited Year 9 Season 4 update, aptly known as Operation Collision Point, is scheduled for rollout on December 3. In addition to the strategic integration of crossplay, the update offers enhanced anti-cheating measures, the remodeling of an Operator, the debut of Siege Cup, and several gameplay balance adjustments. Rainbow Six Siege, nearing its ninth anniversary, continues to lay claim to its spot amongst the most sought-after competitive multiplayer games on both PC and console. It remains a fixture in Steam's top 100 most-played games. Siege's success provides a crucial respite for Ubisoft amidst the precarious performance of new releases like Star Wars: Outlaws and Call of Duty competitor XDefiant.

A New Era of Crossplay and Fair Competition

With crossplay incorporated, players can interact seamlessly with peers across other platforms. Console players now have access to the PC player pool, making way for more integrated and diverse player teams. Squads including a PC player will automatically be shifted to the PC-exclusive matchmaking pool. However, PC gamers won't be given the privilege to join the console matchmaking pool. Console players engaged in Ranked playlists with crossplay activated will have a separate PC rank in addition to their console rank, Ubisoft elucidated. Alongside crossplay, a rigorous overhaul of the anti-cheat programming will enhance cheater detection efficiency to uphold a fair gaming ecosystem, according to Ubisoft. They further explained that players served with a Mousetrap Penalty due to PC and console crossplay will be redirected to the PC matchmaking pool for a 90-day period. This penalty can only be revoked by turning crossplay back on. Games found to host cheaters will be instantly called off without affecting the match's MMR.  However, little is mentioned about actually banning cheaters or removing them from the game.

Reputation Center Revamp and Operator Updates

As part of Ubisoft's steadfast commitment to user integrity, the Reputation Center has been restructured to give a comprehensive overview of the impact of each action on player reputation and transparency on warning or penalty thresholds. Additionally, the new Career hub will centrally compile rank, reputation, and match replay details, with plans to include account statistics in the near future. A significant upgrade of Blackbeard's Adaptable Shield gadget and the introduction of Siege Cup beta, accessible to players above Clearance Level 50, further enrich the gaming narrative. Siege Cup being Siege's most rigorous playlist welcomes five-player squads to participate in ladder tournaments, where they can earn Competitive Coins which unlock exclusive skin collections every fortnight.

Season 4 Gameplay Changes

Lastly, Operation Collision Point introduces modifications to Ballistic Shields and provides balance updates for Attacking Operators Ying and Sens. The redesigned suppression dynamics add value to suppressive fire while bettering Shield Operator counterplay. The new strategy allows for more protracted suppression while keeping melee attack damage null when behind the shield. Further, Ubisoft's effort to incentivize logical gameplay is evident in Ying's revamped rush and Sens’ R.O.U. Projectors update that encourages a creative and adaptable gaming style.
