Amazon has Canceled Crucible, its F2P Multiplayer Shooter

Recommended Posts

After a very rough start to the beta of Amazon's new Crucible shooter game, the company has officially cancelled the game.  After years of development, the game briefly launched in May to a host of problems and game-play issues, before being placed back into a beta state one month later.  While fans continued to support the game, an official blog post by the Crucible team stated “We very much appreciate the way that our fans have rallied around our efforts, and we’ve loved seeing your responses to the changes we’ve made over the last few months, but ultimately we didn’t see a healthy, sustainable future ahead [for] Crucible,” and has sealed the fate of the game.  Amazon has already stated that the Crucible team has been spread out to help with other games that the company is working on.

The company is currently offering refunds on the game and has listed instructions on how to get that refund here.  The developers will be allowing players (who are already signed up for the closed beta) to continue playing the game until November 9th and will also be hosting a community celebration within the coming weeks to thank those who have supported them.  Although it does sound as if matchmaking will be turned off before the November 9th date and only custom games will be possible.

These game development struggles is not great news for Amazon's new cloud gaming platform Luna which just recently entered the market against Stadia and xCloud in early access last month without much of an identity.
