'Off the Grid' Excels as Epic Games Store's Top Free Game
Following its initial release on the Epic Games Store, 'Off the Grid', an exciting avalanche-based battle royale shooter developed by Gunzilla Games, has gained tremendous traction among gaming enthusiasts. This new entrant to the gaming scene is steadily progressing, gaining noteworthy popularity in the Epic Games Store, currently holding the title of the most notable free game.
Outperforming Established Titles
'Off the Grid' has successfully muscled its way to the peak of the store's 'Most Popular Free-to-Play PC Games' category, even outshining Epic’s own acclaimed titles, 'Fortnite', and 'Rocket League'. Additionally, it has been inaugurated as the top trending game within the store. The gameplay cannot escape comparisons with popular battle royale shooters like 'Fortnite' and 'Apex Legends', as it follows a similar survival format with elements of shoot and loot, while the map incrementally shrinks. However, the game possesses distinctive features, including its Avalanche L1 (popularly known as subnet), established in preparation for its anticipated GUN token and in-game loot that can be transformed into tradeable NFTs.
Impressive Stats on Streaming Platforms
On the popular live-streaming platform 'Twitch', 'Off the Grid' was among the frontrunners in viewership, commanding attention similar to established titles like 'League of Legends' and 'Grand Theft Auto V'. With over 150,000 tuning in, Twitch users had clocked in almost 2.2 million hours on 'Off the Grid', according to TwitchTracker data. Matthew Sigel, head of digital assets research at VanEck, lauded the performance of 'Off the Grid' in a tweet, emphasizing how its success underlines the potential of blockchain tech in enhancing player experiences through genuine asset ownership and a decentralized economy. Although 'Off the Grid' was launched in a rudimentary version containing a single map and mode for consoles and PCs, players can look forward to the integration of minting rare in-game items as NFTs, a feature that hasn't been fully materialized yet.
