Overwatch 2 Announces Avatar: The Last Airbender Crossover Collaboration
Developer Blizzard Entertainment has confirmed that the world of Avatar: The Last Airbender is making its way to Overwatch 2. Overwatch, despite not featuring many collaborations in its day, has now plunged into numerous crossovers with popular anime shows over recent years, with one of the most anticipated ones being revealed.
On December 17, players will gain access to a multitude of new cosmetics from Avatar: The Last Airbender realm. An announcement teaser featured a silhouette of a character bearing Aang’s trademark blue arrow, igniting the speculation that the character could be Zenyatta, the omnic monk.
The speculated skin would be a fitting homage to Aang, from the hairless, rounded head to their monk origins, Zenyatta seems to be a perfect match. As for the other characters joining the crossover, they yet remain under wraps.
Possible New Characters in the Collaboration
While various comparisons could be drawn, such as equating Cassidy and Ashe to Spike Spiegel and Faye Valentine from the Cowboy Bebop crossover, or likening Reinhardt to Optimus Prime from the Transformers event, there are no clear indications of the upcoming new characters.
Intriguingly, there might be a possibility of Venture adapting a Toph skin, given Blizzard's penchant for innovative character crossover. Imagine Torbjorn embodying Uncle Iroh on the battlefield, dispersing molten flames.
The Overwatch community awaits with bated breath for the collaboration to unfold on December 17 when the 14th season rolls out, introducing Hazard to the game.
Overwatch's Pink Mercy Raises Significant Funds for Breast Cancer Research
In other noteworthy news from the Overwatch universe, Pink Mercy, a unique skin variant, has managed to raise an impressive $12.3M for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. In its second run, the Pink Mercy skin became a sensation amongst players, despite its limited availability.
Previously, the original run of Pink Mercy in Overwatch succeeded in raising $12.7M, ranking as the largest corporate donation received by the foundation. Collectively, both campaigns have succeeded in raising over $25M for breast cancer research, a commendable feat in the gaming world.
The Pink Mercy skin is an exemplar of utilizing gaming cosmetics for a good cause. Notwithstanding the controversies surrounding microtransactions and divisive developer pricing strategies, it served as an effective fundraising microtransaction tool. The donations from the Pink Mercy campaign will facilitate advancement in breast cancer diagnosis and treatment.
