Cinco de Mayo

This event began 05/05/2026 and repeats every year forever

Cinco de Mayo commemorates the Mexican army’s victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. Led by General Ignacio Zaragoza, the outnumbered Mexican forces achieved an unexpected win against one of the world’s most powerful armies at the time.

While the holiday is relatively minor in Mexico outside of Puebla, it has grown into a broader celebration of Mexican culture and heritage in the United States. Over time, it has come to include festivals, music, traditional foods, and community events.

Today, Cinco de Mayo is both a historical remembrance of resilience and a cultural celebration highlighting Mexican traditions, identity, and influence.
