Microsoft Adds DirectStorage Hardware Check to Windows

DirectStorage has been the leading talk and tech in the new generation of consoles as it enables nearly instant load times and makes open worlds nearly seamless when compared to older storage solutions.  It was stated that DirectStorage would be coming to Windows PCs and now we have a tool to check if your system will be compatible in preview builds for the Game Bar.

Recent Windows updates have been focused on the Game Bar service and while bringing new HDR settings and other gaming-related features to the bar instead of deep within Windows settings, users can now check for hardware requirements.  By simply opening the Game Bar (Win + G) and going to settings, users will find a Gaming Features tab with a list of their hardware compatibility, including DirectStorage.  Just be advised that you currently need to be on the early preview builds for Windows to see these.

In this menu, users can see if their GPU and OS supports DirectStorage and if their Hard Drives are optimized for it.  There have been reports of many Windows 10 users getting fully optimized hardware, but the OS is unsupported and this goes against early claims that DirectStorage will land on Windows 10 and 11.  Overall these are still in preview and the DirectStorage system is not ready for Windows yet, so things may change.
