Stadia Shutdown: Google Releases Self-Serve Bluetooth Tool for Controllers

Google Stadia, the gaming platform that will be shutting down next week, has announced that it will be releasing a self-serve Bluetooth tool for players' controllers. This tool will allow players to enable Bluetooth functionality on their Stadia controllers, giving them the freedom to use the controller on other devices. This news comes as a surprise to many players as Google Stadia announced in September 2022 that the platform would be "winding down" due to lack of traction.

Google has stated that all owners of Stadia should have received a full refund, but for those who still want to use their controller, the new self-serve tool will be released next week. The company has promised to share more details about the tool upon its release, which is expected to be before the platform shuts down on January 18th.

Ever since the announcement of Stadia's closure, developers and publishers have been working on ways to enable cross-progression between platforms. However, as Google is only refunding hardware and software purchases through the Google Store, many players have been left wondering what will happen to their game progress. With the release of this self-serve tool, players can now at least continue to use their controller on other devices.

I was actually thinking that they weren't serious about the whole thing until they started with the massive refund. I don't really see the use for popping up with the Bluetooth tool when they are closing up the service. But hey, Google is rich, who cares?
