Dolby Vision is an HDR technology that enhances the visual quality of HDR content with more vibrant colors, sharper contrasts, and other improvements compared to standard HDR and just like Dolby’s audio technologies, you may be very excited about this feature or overlook it completely depending on your UHD setup and preferences.  However, Xbox is now the first gaming console to offer support for this technology in both its Series S and Series X lineup.

Halo Infinite was the first game stated to be taking full advantage of this increased visual quality and Microsoft has stated that around 10 games already support Dolby Vision, with over 100 more planned.  Microsoft has also been working to bring the benefits of this tech to the existing HDR10 and Auto HDR games already on the platform to improve gamers’ experience.

Xbox game developers can either add Dolby Vison into their game engines or utilize Xbox’s developer platform to access the improvements offered.  Of course, gamers will need a Dolby Vision compatible TV to utilize these improvements and one of the newer Series consoles as it is not supported on the older Xbox One S/X.  Most TVs offer a list of supported visual enhancements somewhere in their settings if you wish to check if yours is compatible and due to how recent this technology is, you may need to update your TV’s firmware to use it.
