I have been reading today about a new PlayStation 5 rumoured to be released that will have a removable disk drive. I am not sure if anything has been announced by Sony themselves but I am seeing a lot of different places reporting on this console.ย

What are your thoughts on a PlayStation 5 with a removable disk drive? Is it something you would like to own?ย

I havenโ€™t heard anything about this but I suppose it would be cool. Itโ€™s not necessarily something I need or would go out of my way to get but itโ€™s a cool option to have for future PlayStation buyers.

I'm the kind of person who doesn't like lots of extras poking out of my console. So I much rather just have one that has a built in disc reader.

I found it strange that the drive requires an Internet connection.ย  The worry seems to be that the drive itself will have DRM on it and therefore be unable to play physical disks once the online support ends for the console, a terrible thing for retro gaming if consoles move in this direction.ย  Otherwise, I actually like the idea of digital consoles that have the ability to add a disk drive for people who may end up needing a way to play disk games or even physical movies down the road.
