Bizdustry.com
Some game studios try to find a middle ground by giving players the choice to make extra purchases without compromising fair gameplay. However, there are other studios that get criticized for introducing unfair or pay-to-win features. This has led to ongoing discussions and debates about whether microtransactions are ethical and how they can impact the gaming community. What do you think of them? A good example is Epic Games and Fornite's endless skin collection.
Shortie
Microtransactions are fine I feel as long as you know what you are getting and it does not end up being a gamble in hopes you get the item you want. Fortnite is a good example of doing microtransactions right. You know exactly what you are getting when you make the purchase and none of the items you purchase such as skins, emotes, gliders or even pickaxes and back blings give you any competitive advantage in the game, they are just that, cosmetic items. Overwatch before they moved to Overwatch 2 and became a free game was a prime example of how microtransactions should not be when they had their loot boxes. Players of the game were purchasing loot boxes in hopes they would get something they wanted and when they didn't they would do it again until they did. That ended up being a gamble. They have since removed lootboxes from Overwatch 2 due to them being a gamble. I feel they could have been left in but made achievable in the game for playing but they removed them completely. Excommunicado
I think what you are describing is a little something we like to call ‘pay to win’. It’s existed for a long time and will continue to do so, it’s a money maker. For example, FIFA sell FIFA points, which give you in-game advantages, and that is the franchise’s biggest revenue generator.
