Do you think free-to-play games are the future?

Recommended Posts

With so many games now going free-to-play with in-game purchases becoming more popular, it got me thinking and wondering if maybe free-to-play games may be the future. We have seen games such as Overwatch go free-to-play and also Call of Duty Warzone and Warzone 2 become free-to-play games as well. Even Fall Guys ended up becoming a free-to-play game for all.

What are your thoughts? Do you feel free-to-play games are the future? Will we see more?

I'm not sure if free games will be the future of video games because I'm not into playing so many of them.

I like paying for my games as they come with lesser or no microtransactions. I hate seeing microtransactions in games I play and they are a constant in free games.

There's always a possibility of seeing more free to play games because of the success the one's that have taken the path have enjoyed. But will all games become free to play games? No, that's not going to happen no matter the kind of success games like that have seen. If it was going to happen, the success of Fortnite would have made all games become free to play by now.

I think freemium games are the future. You can play these games for free but a limited version and if you want to level up, you will have to pay money. In fact, a lot of free games are freemium games as they have microtransactions where you will be buying a lot of items for real money in order to make your gming experience better.

Yes and no. Free to play games are good because it lets the consumer play video games without having a upfront cost to pay. However, many of these companies still need to make money. Take Fortnite by Epic Games for example. They are making millions a year from micro transactions from skins (cosmetic appeal) from characters.

Definitely not. Prices are rising and good free-to-play games are becoming rarer. The future is paid, not only in terms of gaming but also life in general. It’s sad but it’s reality.

This is exactly what I believe too. There are so few free to play video games that can be rated as a very good A game. Most of them are just average games dumped with tons of aggressive microtransactions. Paid games will always be way ahead of free games.
