  2. Microsoft has confirmed that the Xbox Series S/X will play all Xbox One games at launch that do not require Kinect. Most already knew that Kinect games would not work as the Kinect system was not getting an update for the Series consoles. This also appears to include Xbox 360 games as a Tweet Jason Ronald stated that all Xbox 360 and Xbox One games that don't require Kinect will work on the new Series S/X consoles. Although we do not have any details to confirm if this is truly ALL 360 games or just the majority that currently work on the Xbox One. The Xbox team is proud of the fact that they have totaled over 500k hours into testing these older games and we are excited for a massive game library out of the box and a smooth transition onto the home theater shelf. You can view a list of the backwards compatible games here, but we have noticed that this list does not appear include all 360 games (so we will have to see).

  4. In what appeared to be a YouTube accident, but then confirmed by PlayStation Europe, Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War will feature a year long Zombie Onslaught mode only available on PS4 and PS5. This mode will consist of a duo horde style zombie fight where two players are teamed up and have to defend a slowly moving area from waves of zombies. The now removed video mentioned allowing players to have classes, so we are unsure how equipment will be handled in this new mode. However, it does appear to use an "orb" or zone system like many battle royal games where the circle will periodically move and players not within the circle will start taking damage. This is certainly an exciting mode for zombies, but it will not be available on Xbox or PC until November of 2021 and should be launching on release day for PS4 and PS5.

  6. After a very rough start to the beta of Amazon's new Crucible shooter game, the company has officially cancelled the game. After years of development, the game briefly launched in May to a host of problems and game-play issues, before being placed back into a beta state one month later. While fans continued to support the game, an official blog post by the Crucible team stated “We very much appreciate the way that our fans have rallied around our efforts, and we’ve loved seeing your responses to the changes we’ve made over the last few months, but ultimately we didn’t see a healthy, sustainable future ahead [for] Crucible,” and has sealed the fate of the game. Amazon has already stated that the Crucible team has been spread out to help with other games that the company is working on. The company is currently offering refunds on the game and has listed instructions on how to get that refund here. The developers will be allowing players (who are already signed up for the closed beta) to continue playing the game until November 9th and will also be hosting a community celebration within the coming weeks to thank those who have supported them. Although it does sound as if matchmaking will be turned off before the November 9th date and only custom games will be possible. These game development struggles is not great news for Amazon's new cloud gaming platform Luna which just recently entered the market against Stadia and xCloud in early access last month without much of an identity.

  8. As reported by Android Authority Asus has partnered up with Qualcomm to create a line of Qualcomm gaming phones. The report makes it sound as if Asus will be designing the Qualcomm branded devices and they may land as early as this holiday season. The contract between the two companies includes a partnership to bulk order parts for these phones and the Asus ROG phone lineup, which would make us believe the Qualcomm phones will be a powerhouse. Qualcomm has a habit of releasing new flagship phones in December, but we all know the COVID is still a thing and delays should be expected at this point. There was also a section of the report that mentioned how a portion of the new phones need to be branded as Qualcomm at first and then will become the ROG phone brand later. This may include the phones will be made for different markets, perhaps a budget ROG line, or simply a way to sell more of the same phone. Details are still lacking, but as mobile gaming grows in popularity, it is hard to argue that more options is a bad things. Although we certainly have a lot of questions about how this deal will play out or if we will even see the Qualcomm phone at in here in the US.

  12. Call of Duty Warzone enters season 6 and continues the fight against the plague of cheaters ruining the experience for many others trying to enjoy the game. The start of the sixth season began with the banning of around 20,000 players who were using cheats within the game. While we appreciate the ban hammer being lay down upon these players, the fact cheats are so abundant that they are openly streaming cheats on Twitch is still concerning. It does appear that a popular subscription based cheating site EngineOwning was the target of the ban as they are currently listing their cheats as "detected". Activison (Call of Duty's publisher) has taken legal action against cheating services before and we wonder if that will be the case with EngineOwning as no official statements have been released about the service. Players seem to be mixed about the bans as they do not appear to be helping in the fight against cheaters as a whole and the plea for more enforcement remains. It has been reported that over 200,000 players have been banned for the service over cheats this since the game's release, but it still seems always seems too little and too late.

  14. Microsoft has officially announced that Xbox Game Pass will be gaining EA Play as an additional perk to the subscription service for no additional cost. The service which costs only $4.99 monthly (per platform) provides significant value due to its extensive library of games and inclusion of expensive yearly releases such as the Madden and FIFA series of games. The partnership will allow Game Pass users to obtain free EA Play on Xbox Consoles starting November 10th and will also allow access to EA Play on PC sometime in December. Yes, if you have Game Pass Ultimate, then that is $9.98 worth of EA Play included into your $14.99 monthly subscription. And it does not just end there, as Microsoft as confirmed that “some” EA games included in EA Play will be part of the xCloud gaming service once it is released. This will allow players the ability to play these games on their mobile and low spec devices via internet streaming (although all the current app store battles make it a guessing game on what platforms it will launch with). Once you factor in the original value of Game Pass games, the Xbox Live membership, the xCloud membership, and EA Play, the $14.99 a month price tag is quite an amazing deal for Xbox and PC users. For those unfamiliar with EA Play, it is the “basic” version of their subscriptions and allows users access to nearly the full EA game library once the games have been on the market for a few mouths. If you want full access to their new releases, the day they are released, then you will need EA Play Pro for $14.99. We currently do not know if Game Pass users will get a discount for Pro or if it will be factored in at all. This is all great news for Xbox fans and will certainly help the sales on the new Xbox, but we do wish Game Pass itself would be dropping more launch day exclusives and as EA has no plans on pushing out a new Battlefield or other major title this holiday season (beyond the sport game releases), it is curious to how much this will swing the tide of the console wars.
