The company envisions a handheld device and its xCloud platform working together to deliver immersive gaming experiences. Microsoft is considering partnerships with AMD and potentially Arm for hardware components and machine learning AI coprocessors. Development is projected to begin in 2024, with the first hybrid cloud games being produced from 2024 through 2026. Microsoft's top leadership, including CEO Satya Nadella, is involved in the discussions and aims to unify the company's systems talent around a single vision. Microsoft's focus on cloud-first gaming is evident with the hiring of Kim Swift, former Google Stadia design director, to build a team focused on cloud-native games. Sony is also investing in cloud gaming technology with the hiring of Jade Raymond from Stadia.
