From Dot Esports: Twitch has revealed the full schedule of panels, events, and more to take place during this year’s TwitchCon event in San Diego. The event opens at 11am CT on Oct. 7 with Artist Alley kicking things off. This is an open marketplace “where creators who illustrate, sculpt, sew, and more can showcase their crafts and designs” and fans can meet artists, buy fan art, or commission custom pieces. The keynote speech, usually delivered by Twitch CEO Emmett Shear, will take place at 5pm CT in the Glitch Theater. This is when the company usually reveals statistics from the year and gives updates on upcoming features. TwitchCon also includes several esports events this year, including many run by Twitch Rivals. There’s a Minecraft MOBA event, a Fortnite No-Build event, and even the Balloon World Cup Regional Championships. That’s a sport where people try to keep a balloon suspended in air. Seriously. The full schedule can be viewed online and sorted by programs, which rooms they will take place in, and for each day of the weekend-long event. From Charlie INTEL: Warzone Season 5’s new Doomsday Station device is set to shake up Caldera, so here’s how to use it to earn a unique cosmetic and in-game rewards. Warzone Season 5 is sending off the battle royale with a bang thanks to the new weapons up for grabs, familiar villains returning, and new modes to discover. The new content doesn’t stop there as Raven Software are also introducing several new items for players to utilize. One of these new items is the Doomsday Station, and it has the potential to shake up Warzone gameplay. Those who harness the power of the Doomsday Station could set themselves up for an easy battle royale victory, so let’s find out how it works. Warzone Doomsday Station explained Players who activate a Doomsday Station during the primary BR game mode will trigger a series of events on Caldera. After a Doomsday Station has been activated, enemy AI including soldiers and helicopters will arrive at your location for a direct assault. It’ll be up to you and your teammates to remain close to the Doomsday Station and defend yourself against the oncoming attackers. If done successfully, players will earn a unique cosmetic reward as well as powerful in-game items. Activating the Doomsday Station is not enough on its own and only those who survive the onslaught will receive the rewards. The cosmetic up for grabs is a Watch for your Operator, and while we don’t know which in-game items will act as rewards, they’re expected to change the flow of the game and set you up for a victory. In addition, only one Doomsday Station will appear across Caldera per match. This practically guarantees that it will be a heavily contested location. Speaking of location, the Doomsday Station will not appear in the same spot every match. Instead, it has multiple spawn locations, so you’ll have to keep an eye out and be ready for anything. From Charlie INTEL: A top Warzone player has claimed that Warzone 2 will come equipped with the highly requested FOV slider on console. Activision announced that Warzone Season 5 will be the final season and major content release of the classic CoD battle royale. Despite the exciting new features coming in Season 5, players can’t help but look forward to Warzone 2. In August, a leak revealed a possible release date for the battle royale sequel. This leaked date of November 16 has players extremely excited to discover the next chapter of Warzone. In addition, it seems like players could finally be getting their most desired feature that was missing from the original. I was told FOV slider is confirmed for last gen consoles for all iw9 projects (mp,wz2,dmz) — Metaphor (@Metaaphor) August 18, 2022 Console players have been asking for a Warzone FOV slider since the Verdansk days. Of course, the feature never made its way to Warzone, and with Season 5 being its finale, this will remain the case. The good news is, that a top Warzone player by the name of Metaphor is now claiming that console players’ biggest wish will be fulfilled as an FOV slider is set to make its way to Warzone 2. Interestingly enough Metaphor also claims that an FOV slider will be available to those on last-generation consoles as well. According to their source, the FOV slider will also feature in Modern Warfare 2 and DMZ. While players weren’t shocked to see the feature’s rumored inclusion for multiplayer, the leak has given players hope that Warzone 2 could be a smoother experience than Warzone: “multiplayer i’d expect as Vanguard had it, i hope this means Warzone 2 is optimised better.” it wont. — Metaphor (@Metaaphor) August 18, 2022 Of course, this raises another question concerning the optimization of Warzone. Some questioned “how the hell a fat PS4 or a VCR xbox one from almost 10 years ago is going to run WZ2 on 120 FOV with consistent frames?,” to which Metaphor replied, “it won’t.” This indicates that Metaphor believes either last generation consoles will not have a maximum FOV of 120, or that they’ll have to sacrifice frame rates to access wider FOVs. Being able to access 120 FOV with consistent frames seems too good to be true when it comes to last-generation hardware. Keep in mind that these are just leaks, so we’ll have to wait and see what’s in store for Warzone 2 console players. However, if these early claims turn out to be true, players could be pleased to finally receive the top item on their wishlist. From Dot Esports: When Michael “shroud” Grzesiek returned to the professional gaming scene with Sentinels’ pro VALORANT roster last month, he sent shockwaves through the general esports community. The 28-year-old has been one of the most popular streamers since his retirement from CS:GO, but his comeback during the VCT NA Last Chance Qualifier was a story that reached many people a few weeks ago. He even had a handful of different highlight moments that threw longtime fans of the player back in time to when he was constantly seen on highlight YouTube channels and the CS:GO subreddit. Shroud’s return wasn’t enough to push Sentinels’ season forward into VALORANT Champions 2022, but the talented star confirmed that although his time with the team was most likely coming to a close, his time in the competitive scene is far from over. During a recent stream, shroud confirmed that his contract with Sentinels was only for the LCQ and that he’s a free agent moving forward. Even still, he is keeping his options completely open for continuing his career as a professional VALORANT player, whether it’ll be with Sentinels or another organization. “The story is not over, it’s just on pause right now because everything is done, [and] Sentinels is done,” shroud told his viewers. “They’re not playing until franchising, if they’re even in franchising. Fingers crossed that they are, and if they’re in and they still want to play with me, then we can figure something out. It could still happen.” When fellow streamer and former CS:GO teammate Tarik asked him about his future plans, shroud also said that if he was able to join a franchised team in L.A., he would love to continue, even if it meant streaming less or not streaming at all due to practice. He mentioned that he was “always jealous of LCS and League” when he played CS:GO professionally, so a team in his home city could be perfect. From Charlie INTEL: The Warzone Season 5 update will refresh the Gulag, and for the final season, it seems players will be getting a dose of nostalgia. Warzone is coming to the end of its lifespan, with the Season 5 update looking to bring players one last hoorah before Warzone 2. As well as a bunch of new weapons like the EX1 and Valois Revolver, Warzone players will also be getting a new Field Upgrade and Personal Supply Box Killstreak. While players try out this new content in-game, they will also notice a change in the Gulag. The Gulag is an important space for players, as they will often find themselves trying to get back to the map and earn a victory. The layout for the Gulag has changed a lot over the seasons, but it seems Season 5 will be taking the Gulag back to its roots. The Caldera Gulag for Warzone Season 5 will be a reimagined layout of the original Showers map. The Call of Duty blog states that players will be fighting it out in a “face-off pit inspired by an old favorite.” Although it is not exactly confirmed, the image gives it away, as it is clearly one of the spawns of the classic Showers Gulag, but with a “new volcanic” theme. Although it is reimagined, this will still be a nostalgic experience for players, as it is the original layout for Warzone’s second chance saloon. This may also spark some nostalgia for Verdansk, as players have been extremely eager to see the original Warzone Battle Royale map return. From Charlie INTEL: A brand-new crossover might be arriving in Fortnite as leakers are claiming that Epic Games are planning to add a Doom Slayer skin to the battle royale title. Epic Games have surprised Fortnite players throughout the seasons by introducing collaborations that add new crossover content to the game, including cosmetic skins for Dragon Ball characters. Fortnite has also featured crossovers with other video game franchises such as Street Fighter, and new leaks claim that the battle royale title has entered into a collaboration with the Doom franchise. Doom is a popular first-person shooter franchise that centers around a marine known as Slayer and his epic quest to battle an invasion of demons from hell. This character has also been given the name ‘Doomguy’ by fans of the series. On August 19, prominent leaker ‘HYPEX’ tweeted that Epic Games are currently planning to introduce a Doom Slayer cosmetic outfit to Fortnite Chapter 3, Season 3 as part of a brand-new crossover. Doom Slayer skin is most likely coming NEXT WEEK @MidaRado hasn't been wrong about previous collabs and he just tweeted 3 franchise names (Doom included) claiming that one of them happens next week. So, it wouldn’t be surprising if Epic Games also added Doom Slayer to Fortnite. That said, it’s worth keeping in mind that these are currently just leaks, and this information has yet to be officially confirmed by Epic Games. Here’s everything we know about The Archon map, as well as the new Main Quest and improvements coming to Vanguard Zombies in Season 5. After the huge success of Black Ops Cold War Zombies, players were less-than-impressed with Vanguard’s Zombies offering due to its lack of classic features and divergence from the round-based format. Season 5 arrives on August 24, and will be Vanguard’s final season ahead of Modern Warfare 2. This final update brings one more round-based Zombies map to the game with a new Main Quest and boss fight. Here’s everything we know about the Vanguard Season 5 Zombies update, including the upcoming gameplay improvements. After completing a series of trials and objectives around The Archon, Zombies players will be tasked with fighting Kortifex, the Big Bad of Vanguard’s storyline. Treyarch said that “Rather than devoting valuable development time to additional features or more Covenants,” they prioritized the Kortifex boss fight which is “on a scale rarely seen in Zombies.” The Main Quest will go live with The Archon’s launch on August 24th at 9 AM PT / 12 PM ET / 5 PM BST. Is there a new Wonder Weapon in Vanguard Season 5? No, there isn’t a new Zombies Wonder Weapon arriving with Vanguard Season 5’s The Archon. Instead, Treyarch have added all three previous Wonder Weapons (Ray Gun, Wunderwaffe DG-2, and Decimator Shield) to the map. From Dot Esports: To celebrate this year’s VALORANT Champions, Riot Games is offering players a new skin collection, a free event pass, and some exclusive broadcast drops. The new skin collection, which was showcased today in a post from the devs, includes a new Phantom, Butterfly Knife, trophy card, gun buddy, and spray. The skins feature a “custom model effect” that evolves every five kills and a special easter egg. Image via Riot GamesThe Phantom has a custom red muzzle flash in the shape of the VCT spark logo, plays the Champion’s 2022 anthem when inspected, and more. The melee has a gold glowing outline when you have the most kills in the game and evolves every five kills with red crystal shards incrementally filling the blade and maxing out at 25 kills. When players reach 25 kills, the inspection animation “embodies what it means to be a champion,” according to Riot. In a similar fashion to the collection from last year’s event, 50 percent of net proceeds will go to participating teams. That bundle reportedly generated $18.7 million in revenue, meaning roughly $9.36 million was split evenly between all competing teams.  This limited edition bundle will set you back 6,265 VP and will be available to purchase from Aug. 23 to Sept. 21. As well as the bundle, a free event pass will be up for grabs. In total, players will be able to progress through seven levels and earn rewards along the way. This includes the “Jett Diff” spray, the “Gamer” title, the “NICE!” player card, the “Potato” title, the “Champions 2022 Dad Hat” buddy, and two sets of 10 Radianite points. OpTic Texas superstars Dashy and iLLeY have announced they will be free agents for the upcoming Call of Duty League season.  After a disappointing end to the Vanguard season, Dashy and iLLeY have revealed they are free agents heading into the offseason. Dashy announced his free agency first, saying that he would be a restricted free agent before iLLeY announced that he would be an unrestricted free agent, unlike Dashy.  Both players had their ups and downs for OpTic over the last year, with Dashy having an All-Star season, while iLLeY dealt with a thumb injury for a significant part of the year. OpTic originally formed this roster to win championships, which they successfully did during the season’s first Major, but they failed to win any more titles the rest of the season. Independence Day is a holiday in the United States, although many nations have a holiday where they celebrate independence from another nation, to celebrate America’s independence from Great Britain and the creation of the United States. The holiday is often called The Fourth of July and is set on the day when the Declaration of Independence was published declaring independence from Great Britain in 1776. The Revolutionary War began on April 19, 1775, when the New England states began fighting British forces over their objection to Parliament's taxation policies and lack of colonial representation. As the war expanded, the national congress of the 13 colonies voted in secret to declare independence from Great Britain, and on July 4th, 1776, the Declaration of Independence was signed. As one would expect when fighting the British at this time (the world’s most successful military power), the United States struggled to claim its independence via a military campaign. However, on October 19, 1781, the British would surrender during the Siege of Yorktown and the fighting would come to an end in the colonies. Thanks to America’s ally, the French, and a massive resolve to become independent, the United States would be formed as a nation. September 3, 1783, made the British surrender official as both sides signed the Treaty of Paris and the United States could officially call themselves a free nation. Father’s Day a national holiday in the United States that honors fatherhood and was first celebrated on June 19th, 1910. While that may have been a straightforward intro to a holiday for our blog, the fact is that Father’s Day also had a quite simple and uneventful start when compared to most holidays out there. In Europe, Saint Joseph’s Day was started in the Catholic faith as a feast day to celebrate fatherhood. This feast day was usually celebrated on March 19th and started in the very early 1500s (some believe it may have been the late 1400s) and was eventually brought to the Americas by Spanish and Portuguese settlers. This holiday never truly began a world holiday and while it is celebrated commonly in Europe, in America it was not a well-recognized event. In 1909, Sonora Smart Dodd, who was raised by only her father along with multiple bothers, attended a Mother’s Day event at her church and pushed to make a holiday for fathers as Saint Joseph’s Day was mostly unknown in America. She ended up suggesting this idea to the Spokane Ministerial Alliance and requested a worldwide Father’s Day to be celebrated on her father’s birthday of June 5th. The Spokane Ministerial Alliance ended up supporting the idea but made the holiday fall on the third Sunday of June instead. June 19, 1910 was the first Father’s Day celebration and was hosted in Spokane, Washington thanks to Sonora’s efforts. However, the holiday struggled to gain ground and ended up fading in the 1920s, even after President Woodrow Wilson praised the Spokane services in 1916 via a telegram. Oddly enough, Father’s Day not only almost never became a holiday but also nearly ended Mother’s Day as a separate holiday as well during its early years. In the 20s and 30s, men were not very receptive of the day or willing to receive gifts for being a father and this created a movement to merge Mother’s Day and Father’s Day into Parent’s Day. The Great Depression and its rampant effects on the commercialization of these holidays would end up defeating the effort to merge them together. World War II would bring attention back to the need of a national holiday for fathers and the 1960s would bring Father’s Day back into the national spotlight as in 1966, President Lyndon Johnson signed a presidential proclamation declaring the third Sunday of June as Father’s Day. In 1972, President Richard Nixon would establish the holiday as a permanent national observance as we know it today. View full record View the full article

Juneteenth, which is short for June Nineteenth, celebrates the day when United States federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas to occupy the state and ensure that slaves were being freed following the Civil War. The event took place on June 19th in 1865, two months after General Robert E. Lee surrendered at the Appomattox Court House to end the Civil War. It is often considered the longest-running African American holiday and honors the end of slavery in the United States. Even after the Civil War had ended slavery was mostly unaffected in Texas against the Emancipation Proclamation signed by Abraham Lincoln in 1862 that freed all the slaves in in the Confederacy. This was the case until General Gordon Granger entered Texas and read General Orders No.3: “The people of Texas are informed that, in accordance with a proclamation from the Executive of the United States, all slaves are free.”. Some consider this action to be the true beginning of the end of slavery in the United States as the Emancipation Proclamation did not uniformly end slavery in the United States. The Emancipation Proclamation was a military focused action that only freed the slaves currently living in the rebelling Confederate states and had no affect on the Union states that still used slaves. This action was to gain the support of local slaves to fight against the Confederacy but would go on to swing Lincoln’s stance on slavery and be a driving force to the end slavery. While Texas did succeed and join the Confederacy, it was mostly unaffected by the war as no large-scale fighting or Union troop occupation was seen throughout the war. Many slavers found the state to be a haven for slavery and started to travel to the state from other areas. Even after General Granger’s arrival and orders, numerous slavers would continue to use slaves and hide their freedom until after the current harvest season. In December of 1865, the 13th Amendment would pass, and slavery would officially end in the United States. In 1866, freed slavers in Texas would organize “Jubilee Day” on June 19th and it would become an annual celebration of freedom in the state. The event would be full of music, prayer, barbecues, and other community events to celebrate. In 1979, Texas would become the first state to make Juneteenth an official holiday and several other states would follow over the years. In 2021, the US Senate passed a resolution establishing Juneteenth National Independence Day as a national holiday, but as of writing this article it has yet to pass as a full law. To this day, many will still refer to the holiday as Jubilee Day, June Nineteenth, Emancipation Day, or even Freedom Day. View full record View the full article
